    Lord Shiva is a deity that many devotees in India highly respect and worship. Legends say he is a part of the Hindu triumvirate. The ancient Indians created the triumvirate so they could explain birth, life, and death. They are in the form of personified deities. In the triumvirate, Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer. Indians worship Shiva even today, like the other deities.

    The Statue at Murudeshwara

    At Murudeshwara in North Karnataka, a temple dedicated to the deity of destruction, with the second tallest statue of Lord Shiva seated on top of it. It stands at a height of 123 feet and took a span of two years! The temple itself was built on top of the Kanduka Hill. The Kanduka Hill is surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea.

    With the sea as its background, you will definitely have a lovely, picturesque view. It is highly recommended that you visit it at sunrise or sunset—because the picture you’re going to feast your eyes on will be unimaginably incredible!

    The Statue at Baroda

    The third tallest statue of Lord Shiva is located at Baroda (Vadodara) in Gujarat. It stands at a height of 120 feet; it took 6 years to complete! The statue stands on 23 pilings of cemented bricks, surrounded by the Sursagar Lake, giving it a picturesque look.

    During Mahashivratri, it is lit up glamorously with lights, making it very stunning.

    The Sursagar Lake is situated in the middle of the city of Baroda and it was rebuilt in the 18th century. The water in it remains like that for an entire year! A concrete wall surrounds this lake and you can see people sitting on it, relaxing in the cool, fresh air of the lake.

    The Statue at Nathdwara

    At Nathdwara in Rajasthan, a new Lord Shiva statue in India was raised. It reaches a height of about 251 feet. It is the tallest Shiva statue in India. The construction of this statue took several months of effort and sweat. Locals call it The Statue of Belief. It shows Shiva sitting in a meditative posture over a structure built like a hillock.

    Facing the Nathdwara Shiva statue is the statue of Nandi, Shiva’s sacred bull and his ride. It stands at a height of 25 feet. A water stream at the top of the Statue’s head is a symbol of the river Ganga. This symbol is considered holy; it shows Ganga flowing from Shiva’s matted hair.

    The Statue in Coimbatore

    The Adiyogi Shiva Statue at the Isha Yogi Center in Coimbatore stands at a height of 112 feet, making it the fourth tallest statue of this deity. The weight of this statue is about 500 tons. It is essentially a bust sculpture and is the biggest of all. Its height symbolizes 112 ways of attaining moksha and the 112 chakras in the human system.

    The locals associate a legend with this place. Over 15,000 years ago, there was a saint called Adiyogi. He imparted the study of Yoga to his seven disciples, the Saptarishis – or Seven Sages. He provided 112 different ways through which people can rise above their obstacles and arrive at their definitive potential.

    The Statue in Coimbatore

    The Statue at Dwaraka

    Situated next to the Nageshwar Temple in Dwaraka, Gujarat, this Shiva statue stands at about 82 feet in height. Dwaraka in itself is a place of great religious value; Indian epics and legends featured it a lot. It is home to one of the 12 jyotirlingas – translated literally as “radiant lingas” – mentioned in the Shiva Purana, the story of Lord Shiva. Where the Shiva Lingas are very common, the Jyotirlingas aren’t.

    This statue of Lord Shiva situated in Kachar City, Jabalpur standis at a height of 76 feet. The surroundings of this temple is full of greenery, providing its visitors with solace and tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle of busy city life. It was built in 2004 and opened to the public in 2006. In addition, you will find another jyotirlinga here.
